La Segarra, a county made to human measure ( 17,000 inhabitants ),
in the heart of Catalonia, cradle of civilisations, scenes of
conquering and re-conquering, land of castles, churches and
shrines, all of which combine to transport us to a past full of
history and legends.
La
Segarra, the frontier between Christians and Saracens, where those
who love to follow the prints left with the passing of time will

castles –
Montcortés l’Aranyó, les Pallargues, les Sitges, Florejacs,
Vicfred, Ratera – and imposing watchtowers dotted around the
landscape, such as Vallferosa, which at 33 metres high is
considered one of the most important in Western Europe.
La Segarra, a land of pathways, invites the visitor to enjoy the
changing colours of its landscape, green in spring, golden at
harvest time and brown in autumn and winter. Signposted paths
which constitute an excellent network for walking, cycling and
horse riding in absolute silence and peace.
La Segarra also has a tradition handicrafts, which are a mix of
natural elements and workmanship. The visitor will be able to find
in practically all the villages of the area a great variety of
crafts which are made here.

La Segarra has its own particular gastronomy, which is very much
based on ingredients which are produced in the area. Pork, game
and coques (a type of cake), partridge in French dressing, pig’s
trotters, panadons (cakes with a filling). There are other
delicious sweets such as sabines, carquinyoles a type of biscuit
with almonds ), morenetes (rye bread) , nevats (another type of
cake) with sweet spices from La Segarra or ratafia (a liquor).
La Segarra is a unique place with its own identity. Its castles,
